Understanding recognition scope

A practical guide to inclusions, exclusions, sites, modes and product boundaries.

A recognition is useful only when its boundaries can be understood and independently checked.

Start with the subject

Identify the legal entity, programme, examination or qualification named in the record. A parent company, subsidiary, brand or related product is covered only when explicitly included.

Read inclusions and exclusions together

Sites, languages, levels, delivery and assessment modes, learner groups, versions and geographical limits can change the meaning materially. An exclusion is part of the decision, not an optional note.

Check basis, dates and live status

Read the standard code and version, effective and expiry dates, current status and public history. The register overrides an undated logo, copied certificate, screenshot or third-party claim.
